This dehydrator does not have a timer- if you require a timer please check our 4926T model
Ever since we bought an Excalibur dehydrator we haven’t been able to stop raving about it. We’re able to purchase fruits like bananas, for example, in bulk, and create delicious dried banana snacks that we can eat for the rest of the month (or even the rest of the year, if we made that much). You have the edge over your local grocer with these deliciously, chewy dried bananas or “banana chips”. They are all natural; they’re not processed with oil and sugar; and you can create bags of them at a fraction of what you’d pay if you’d buy them ready made.
This is just one of the wonderful healthy treats we’ve been able to create with our Excalibur Dehydrator. We’re excited to share with your more recipes on our site soon.
Who Is This For?
✓ Budget conscious
You can make specialty foods for your family without the “gourmet food” price. Think delicious sun-dried tomatoes for your favourite Sunday Dinner Pasta or to spice up that plain breakfast omelette.
Owning an Excalibur dehydrator allows you to purchase and dry foods in peak seasons when prices are at its lowest - a great saving compared to the high cost of commercial dried products. Best of all, operating a dehydrator costs only cents a days and dried foods don't require continual electricity to be maintained as with freezing.
✓ If you’re looking for a way to save space in your fridge
Fruit and vegies are made up of primarily of water. Did you know that Apples, for example, are made up 84% water! Other common foods you might want to dehydrate like Apricots are 86% water, and Tomatoes have a whopping 94% water content. When you dehydrate the water out of these foods and then store them dried, the space that they will take up ranges from 5-16% of their original size. Think about the difference between storing a small bag of dried apricots in your fridge versus finding space for a large container that could hold only 6 to 8 whole fresh apricots – that might take up half a shelf!
✓ Those who are looking for an alternative to canning or “bottling”
There’s no need to worry about sterilizing jars or blanching vegies in prep for drying them. There are some foods that may take a bit of extra work to dehydrate, but essentially all you need to do is wash the food, slice it if need be, put it on the dehydrator trays, turn on the machine and you’re done. You can then go about your other usual kitchen affairs while you let the Excalibur dehydrator do the rest.
✓ Large Families, Gardeners & Crafts-people
It can dry up to 18kgs of food at one time! With a built-in thermostat, 18cm fan and 600 watt motor, this Excalibur dehydrator is for those who are serious about dehydrating their foods.
Yep, even your family pet will be happy with an Excalibur dehydrator in the household. You can dehydrate snacks like doggie biscuits (recipes will be on our site soon).
How it works?
✓ Easy to dry foods
A wide variety of fresh foods can be dried with the Excalibur 4900: fruits, vegetables, fish and meats. These foods can be eaten dried for snacks and parties, or reconstituted for cooking and baking. Drying is easier than canning or freezing. You simply wash, slice and load food onto the dehydrator trays. Within hours your foods are dried and ready to eat or store.
✓ A variety of foods
You can also use your dehydrator to activate nuts and seeds (after soaking them to get the moisture out), make yoghurt, or even dry meats to make your own delicious jerky or biltong.
You can make these living foods easily with the Excalibur 9 Tray:
Sprouted seed crackers
Fruit roll-ups (Teflex sheet recommended)
Help raise bread
✓ Horizontal airflow design
Help prevent flavour mixing and allows even drying on all trays - no tray rotation required.
✓ Parallexx drying system with Hyperwave fluctuation
The Excalibur 9 Tray uses the unique and patented Parallexx drying system which reliably provides your ingredients with uniform and fast drying every time. The horizontal airflow created inside the dehydrator ensures even distribution of the heat and fine temperature control, eliminating the need to re-stack trays during use.
Unlike most dehydrators that keep temperature constant, the Excalibur's thermostat uses Hyperwave fluctuation to vary heat during the drying cycle. The heat fluctuation eliminates 'case hardening' - food that has dried surfaces with trapped moisture inside. Case hardening increases the risk of mould, yeast and bacterial growth – this Hyperwave fluctuation technology ensures the Excalibur dries food without any case hardening or residual moisture.
